Photo of the The Good Life cigar from Log post number 181

Father's Day. US Open playing in the background. Good day for The Good Life from Privada Cigar Club.

Crack into that thick Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper and you get fresh baked bread and warm baker's spices right off the bat, the kind of smell that makes you stop what you're doing. Light it up and the first third opens into chocolate babka, that rich swirled center, layered with red wine and a little dried floral sweetness. Cedar runs underneath holding it together, with just enough pepper to remind you it's still a cigar.

Second third shifts into herb and roasted nut, bread still hanging around the whole way through. The finish brings sandalwood and a touch of menthol right as the smoke really builds some weight behind it.

Brian Desind designed this one himself alongside J.C. Newman, the oldest family owned cigar company in America, and it shows. Not a cigar for a random Tuesday. This is the one for slowing down and savoring something good.

Happy Father's Day to the dads out there, and to the rest of us just enjoying the smoke.
